Blackbaud Offers Nonprofits Free Web Seminar Series on Rapid Response Fundraising

Blackbaud, Inc., (Nasdaq: BLKB) is offering a free web seminar series to help nonprofits build strategies for mobilizing, soliciting, and stewarding supporters during and after times of disaster. Blackbaud nonprofit experts and partners developed the seminars based on their work with nonprofits that are involved in Haiti relief efforts. The free series, entitled Lessons Learned from Haiti, includes five seminars that will kick-off on March 11 and will continue through May.

The Lessons Learned from Haiti series is designed to help nonprofit professionals learn from both their peers and industry experts on how to successfully perform relief fundraising using emerging tools and technology that allow them to quickly reach their constituents, said Steve MacLaughlin, presenter and Blackbauds director of Internet solutions. The series will also focus on providing nonprofits strategies for stewarding and retaining disaster donors.

Topics will include: developing a rapid response plan, online marketing strategies for disaster response, practical tips for leveraging social media, stewarding donors after a crisis, and turning one-time crisis donors into major givers. The series will feature Blackbaud nonprofit experts including Frank Barry, Lawrence Henze, David Lamb, and Steve MacLaughlin and Blackbaud partners including C.B. Barthlow, director of marketing and client services for mGive and Jeff Patrick, president of Common Knowledge.

Nonprofits need to think differently about how to respond to disasters because donors are thinking differently, said mGives C.B. Barthlow. These web seminars will help nonprofits gain a fresh perspective on how to quickly mobilize their constituents on a local or global scale.

Severe winter weather has already struck several parts of the country, reminding us all of the need to be prepared for snow, ice and freezing temperatures. So Amica Insurance is offering tips to help keep you and your family safe in your home and car this winter.

Severe winter weather can leave you without power and heat, sometimes for days at a time, said Sean Welch a senior assistant vice president with Amica. Thats why its important to be prepared. Make sure you have plenty of emergency supplies at home and in your car. And make sure you have a way to contact all members of your family, especially if youre not together when a storm hits.

If a storm is in the forecast, make sure your cell phone is charged and your gas tank is full, Welch said. Its also important to have enough supplies at home to last you a few days, in case you lose power or become stranded. These should include:

Extra drinking water
Non-perishable food
Prescriptions and other medicines
Baby supplies
Flashlights and extra batteries
A battery-operated radio
Extra blankets and sleeping bags
A first aid kit

Its also a good idea to stock up now on shovels, sand and non-corrosive ice melt, Welch said. Make sure your snow removal equipment, including snow blowers, are ready to run efficiently and safely. And remind everyone of the important safety precautions needed when using this equipment.

Winter storms can also cause dangerous driving conditions, so keep emergency supplies in your car in case you get stuck while traveling, Welch said. These include:

An ice scraper and brush
A shovel and a bag of sand for tire traction
Jumper cables
Flares
A flashlight
A first aid kit
Blankets
Extra winter clothes

Check and update your familys emergency supply kits often, Welch said. Hopefully you will never have to use them, but its better to prepared.
