Walk KidneyWise Los Angeles to Help Launch KidneyWise with Fundraising Walk in Santa Monica

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) February 23, 2010

And the golden statue for the best use of family exercise, increased community awareness, gorgeous ocean side cinematography and most importantly, raising of vital funds for Chronic Kidney Disease goes to................Walk KidneyWise Los Angeles.

On Sunday, March 7, the first-ever Walk KidneyWise Los Angeles (http://www.LosAngelesWalk.org) will take place at Ocean View Park at 2701 Barnard Way in Santa Monica, CA. This fundraising event will introduce KidneyWise (http://www.KidneyWise.org) as a groundbreaking movement addressing the disturbing statistic that more than 50 million Americans either have chronic kidney disease (CKD) or are at risk for it. That includes 1.6 million in Los Angeles County alone facing permanent kidney failure and other serious diseases such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

KidneyWise is a non-profit organization and national movement with a vision to stop chronic kidney disease in its tracks, says KidneyWise Executive Director Leigh Reynolds. Our mission unites the strength of millions of Americans affected by chronic kidney disease with the best practices of our nations leading organizations to redefine prevention.

Walk KidneyWise Los Angeles also coincides with the start of National Kidney Month and leads into World Kidney Day (March 11) and its week-long series of events and seminars.

On the morning of March 7, long before the first limousine picks up the first starlet heading to that evening's 82nd Academy Awards ceremony, Walk KidneyWise Los Angeles will be rolling out its own carpet and welcoming walkers, participants and special volunteers. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Walk kicks off at 10:30 a.m. Ocean View Park is approximately one south of the Santa Monica Pier and one-quarter mile north of Venice Beach.

Walkers will have the option of a two-or four-mile trek. Both routes will begin going south toward Venice Beach on the Ocean Front Walking Path. Water stops will pepper the course. Four-mile walkers will first go south, then head north one mile and turn around just south of the Santa Monica Pier before heading back to Ocean View Park. For children, there will be a WiseKids Dash.

Steven Cojocaru, a fashion critic and entertainment reporter inspired by his own life-saving kidney transplant, has formed Team Cojo to participate in the walk and raise funds.

During the Walk, we'll be announcing our commitment and collaboration with key partnering organizations toward building a healthier Los Angeles, pledges Reynolds. We're asking every walker to ask 20 friends for $ 20. Every dollar counts in backing up our mission that chronic kidney disease and associated diseases must end. To register today, and for more information, please visit http://www.LosAngelesWalk.org or call 1-877-753-WALK.

ResortQuest to Launch $1-A-Day Vacation Treasure Hunt, Jan 19th

Fort Walton Beach, Florida (PRWEB) January 14, 2010

Intrepid value-seekers who successfully solve clues in ResortQuest's Vacation Treasure Hunt will earn a chance to win a five-night stay in one of the nation's premier ski destinations for just $ 1 a day. The treasure hunt, which features a different destination every week for 11 weeks, begins Jan. 19 and ends March 30. A new contest starts at noon EST every Tuesday.

To discover the week's treasure, participants navigate through ResortQuest websites to locate a hidden treasure map icon. The treasure map will reveal the toll-free number and promotion code needed to call and claim the prize. The Web site will offer clues that, when unraveled, will help treasure hunters figure out the location of the week's treasure map. New clues will be added until someone finds the map and calls to claim the treasure.

Each week ResortQuest will select a vacation rental property -- a condo, vacation home or hotel suite -- at one of its ski destinations in Aspen, Breckenridge/Keystone or Steamboat, Colo.; Park City, Utah, or Sun Valley, Idaho, to be the treasure.

"Our goal is to create awareness and excitement about the vacation rental industry and to show consumers how easy it is to navigate through our Web site and book a vacation online," said Cheryl Spezia, vice president of marketing for ResortQuest. "We offer so much value and so many options, people can choose exactly what they want in a vacation at a fantastic destination."

Each ResortQuest ski destination offers a variety of unique vacation rentals in a distinctive resort town.

The Inn at Aspen Hotel is the only ski-in/ski-out lodging at Aspen's Buttermilk Ski Resort, home of the Winter X Games. Downtown is just a few minutes away and the hotel's complimentary shuttle can chaffeur you to Aspen's high-end shopping, five-star dining and trendy nightclubs.

Breckenridge vacation rentals range from luxury hotels and resorts in the heart of historic downtown, to expansive ski-in/ski-out private homes in Breckenridge Ski Resort neighborhoods.

Keystone properties are primarily centralized around the River Run base village, ranging from a condo for the budget-savvy vacationer to a luxury townhome retreat.

ResortQuest's Steamboat lodging surrounds the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort, ranging from ski-in/ski-out luxury condo to affordable townhomes just 3 blocks from the gondola. Our on-demand shuttle will escort guests to-and-from the ski lifts, and around Steamboat Springs.

Park City and Deer Valley offer condos and vacation rentals for vacationers looking to stay at one of the most accessible ski destinations in the world that's also home to the Sundance Film Festival.

The Hamner Institutes For Health Sciences And PBM Capital Group Launch Triangle Research Labs

Research Triangle Park, N.C. (PRWEB) October 18, 2011

The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences (http://www.thehamner.org), a nonprofit research organization focused on translational safety sciences and a pioneer in liver toxicity research, and PBM Capital Group (PBM), a Charlottesville, Va.-based investment group with significant interests in biotech and life sciences, have announced the formation of a new joint venture in contract research services called Triangle Research Labs, LLC (TRL), which will be located on The Hamners campus at 6 Davis Drive. The new company will work on predictive toxicity testing, which will involve screening drug compounds prior to clinical studies to provide biopharma companies an insurance policy to quickly identify compounds that will be toxic to humans, potentially saving billions in the drug discovery process. As part of this effort, PBM has shifted the contract research service resources of its GigaCyte subsidiary in Branford, Conn., to The Hamners facilities in Research Triangle Park.

Leading TRLs operations will be Ivin Silver, Ph.D., formerly director of DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics) at GlaxoSmithKline, with more than 20 years of comprehensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry applying in vitro and in vivo DMPK techniques to support both drug discovery and development, and Shiloh Barfield, formerly vice president of sales and marketing for the former venture capital based CellzDirect Inc., the worlds leader for many years in hepatic drug development services and cell products. Edward LeCluyse, Ph.D., a senior research investigator in the Institute for Chemical Safety Sciences at The Hamner and an adjunct associate professor in the Curriculum in Toxicology at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with more than 25 years of experience in the fields of pharmacology and toxicology, will supervise the research and development programs.

QUOTES:

This partnership with PBM Capital Group aligns quite well with our shared global public health vision, said William Greenlee, president and CEO of The Hamner. We are delighted that The Hamner will be the home for Triangle Research Labs, and I look forward to the many breakthroughs that will advance predictive drug safety models and accelerate new medicine development.

We are pleased to have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with The Hamner on a partnership that we believe will benefit both of us, as well as the field of predictive toxicity testing, said Paul Manning, CEO of PBM Capital Group. The Hamners reputation for scientific excellence is well known, and we are privileged to be associated with them. It is our belief that this research collaboration will lead to innovative science and advances in developing and gaining adoption of the next generation of predictive tools to aid in chemical toxicology and drug discovery and development. We are pleased that the science being developed at our GigaCyte subsidiary can contribute to these advances.
